Introducing Lymphatic Drainage Massage at Seagrass Wellbeing Centre at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel.
Lymphatic drainage massage is a relaxing massage treatment designed to encourage the flow of lymph throughout the body. Using light pressure to stimulate the flow of lymph through the lymphatic vessels and back into the circulatory system this massage has many physical benefits.
The benefits include:
- Relaxation and stress modulation
- Sleep promoting
- Supports detoxification systems of the body.
- Supports the immune system.
- Reduces swelling, fluid retention and lymphedema,
- Contours and shapes
- Promotes a feeling of wellbeing.
What is the Lymphatic System
Our lymphatic system runs the length and breadth of our body. It is a network of vessels which transport a watery fluid, lymph, from our toes to our neck, and from our head to our neck. The lymphatic system cleans and feeds every cell in our body and without its proper function our wellbeing deteriorates.
As part of our immune system the lymphatic system is the transport mechanism for immune cells to get around the body. The lymph nodes filter harmful substances (bacteria, viruses etc) from the lymph as it makes its way up the body to re-enter our circulatory system at the bottom of the neck.
The lymphatic system also absorbs and transports fat and fat-soluble vitamins from the digestive tract. The fluid balance within our body is also a job of the lymphatic system as it absorbs the fluid from our blood that bathes our cells.
Lymphatic vessels surround most of the organs of the body so are deep as well as superficial (just under the skin) and support organ function.
All body processes produce waste within the body. The lymphatic system transports this waste away to be recycled, which is why the lymphatic system is sometimes called the drainage system of the body.
Other toxins from the foods we eat, the products we put on our skin, the air we breathe as well as our environment can be transported and filtered out of our body via a free-flowing lymphatic system.
So, supporting the lymphatic system is one of the most effective ways to maintain and improve wellbeing.
How to prepare for a lymphatic drainage massage.
Make sure to drink plenty of fluids in the days leading up to the massage to ensure all elimination routes are functioning and ready to carry any extra waste that may arise.
What to expect during a Lymphatic Drainage Massage:
- Treatment begins with a consultation with one of our highly trained therapists.
- Previous medical history will be discussed and a plan for your treatment will be agreed.
- Lymphatic massage is usually performed lying face-up but this will depend on your particular needs as client comfort is our aim at all times.
- Pressure is lighter than in most massages and is more of a gliding, rhythmic movement along the body, starting at the base of the neck. This is a very relaxing massage and clients have been known to ‘nod off’ for a while.
- A bespoke blend of nourishing and organic plant oils is used during the massage leaving skin feeling soft and smooth.
- Treatment time is 75 minutes
How to support the lymphatic system:
Eat as healthily as possible, drink plenty clean water, move in a way that makes you happy and minimise stress. Plus have a lymphatic drainage massage regularly.
